In short

What is a bioclimatic pergola?

Quick answer. A bioclimatic pergola is an aluminium frame with a roof of louvres that rotate on their axis. Angled, they let the sun in, create shade or release hot air; closed, they keep out the rain. With a motor and sensors they move on their own. It suits terraces, gardens and pools from Valencia to Murcia, after a site visit.

Which spaces are bioclimatic pergolas for?

They fit places where the sun is strong for much of the year and shade needs adjusting through the day, as on the Costa Blanca. They can be attached to the facade or stand free on four posts in the middle of the garden.

  • House terraces and gardens
  • Pool areas and sun decks
  • Penthouses in full sun
  • Restaurant, hotel and beach bar terraces
  • Outdoor lounges in residential complexes

FAQ

Questions about bioclimatic pergolas

How much does a bioclimatic pergola cost?

It depends on the size, whether it is attached or freestanding, the motor, the sensors and the aluminium finish. We do not publish prices: we prepare the quote after seeing and measuring the space.

What are the drawbacks of a bioclimatic pergola?

It is heavier than an awning and needs solid anchoring. Closed louvres keep out rain, but they are not a sealed roof against wind driven rain. Motors and sensors need some maintenance.

Which is better, a bioclimatic pergola or an awning?

An awning gives simple shade and folds away. A bioclimatic pergola adjusts shade precisely, ventilates, keeps out rain and handles wind better. If you use the terrace a lot, the pergola gives more control.

Which is better, a bioclimatic pergola or a glass roof?

A glass roof always protects but lets the sun’s heat through. A pergola gives shade and airflow in the heat and opens when you want light. On very sunny sites the pergola usually feels cooler.

Is it legal to install a bioclimatic pergola in Spain?

Yes, but each town hall decides whether a prior notice is enough or a licence is needed, and in apartment buildings the owners’ community has a say too. What LUNEKS handles for you

How do the pergola sensors work?

A rain sensor closes the louvres when it starts to rain, and a wind sensor moves them to a safe position in strong gusts. You control it with a remote or from your phone. Sensors and controls offered by LUNEKS
